How Implant Restorations Can Protect Your Smile

Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and restore your smile. There are many benefits to dental implants, including the fact that they:

  • Are a permanent solution for missing teeth
  • Look and feel like natural teeth
  • Allow you to eat and speak normally
  • Improve the health of your remaining teeth
  • Are durable and long-lasting.

What's involved with the implantation process?

The first step is to consult with a qualified and experienced dentist to see if you're a candidate for dental implants. (While our office does not place implants, we will be very happy to help you choose a qualified dentist to provide you with one.) Once it's determined that you are a good candidate for an implant, the next step is to have it placed surgically into the jawbone.

After the implant has been placed, it will need to heal for several months before the dental implant restoration can be placed. Once the implant has healed, the dentist will place the abutment, which is a small connector piece, onto the implant. From there, an impression will be made of the abutment and used to create your new tooth, called a crown. The crown is then placed onto the abutment, completing the dental implant restoration.

What do I do if my implant requires restoration?

If your implant is loose, has fallen out, is causing you pain, or is showing signs of damage, call our office as soon as possible. We'll conduct a thorough examination and determine if your implant requires restoration. If this is the case, our dentist may need to remove and replace the implant. In many situations, he may also be able to successfully restore your implant.
